Adding to its menu of local community charitable efforts it has undertaken the past week to assist Long Islanders, Jovia Financial Credit Union has purchased gift cards from food delivery services to help feed members while also supporting local eateries.

The Westbury-based credit union has purchased gift cards, each valued at $100, that will be awarded randomly to members. In total, the Westbury-based credit union purchased more than $5,000 worth of gift cards from such food delivery services as GrubHub, Seamless, DoorDash and Uber Eats. Members who are awarded gift cards are encouraged to use them on orders from local restaurants and food establishments.

Jovia members can enter to win one of the gift cards by filling out a form at joviafinancial.com/supporting-local-business. The gift cards will be awarded randomly in mid- May after all entries have been received.

The program has a dual purpose of providing members with a brief respite from food shopping and preparation, while also supporting local food establishments that may be suffering from the downturn in business due to the coronavirus crisis.

“All of us have been through so much the past several weeks, so this will certainly help make the lives of some of our members just a little bit easier,” said Renu Dalessandro, chief marketing officer at Jovia. “This program also has the added benefit of hopefully driving sales to those local restaurants and eateries that are providing an essential service during these difficult times.”

This is the third community-focused effort Jovia has announced in this past week. The first was the announced partnership with Island Harvest Food Bank to provide $10,000 in funding to deliver meal kits to 400 food-insecure families that previously depended on school programs for their daily meals. And most recently, Jovia donated $5,000 to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau to purchase gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment for those caring for disabled individuals living at the organization’s residences.
